In this increasingly materialistic world (falsely assumed by new agers to be approaching illumination), it’s more and more difficult to take unselfish action.
That’s because people became addicted to the comforts of modern civilization. Its increasing costs keep the enslaved ones focused on sustaining the level of comfort they are addicted to, or even achieving more of it.
That’s not the purpose of this world, but because most people are totally blind to the spiritual dimension of this existence, that’s all they are aware of, and thus they do all they can to thrive in this material aspect of the universe.
This striving for gain manifests in selfish, result-oriented action.
People most caught up in this race are the most miserable of all. As their strength dwindles with age, they tire of this battle, diseases attack them because of living a lifetime out of the alignment with the Universe, and their end is bitter.
You are in a losing battle if you allow the world of changing phenomena to dictate your life. When you are enslaved by your likes and dislikes, a myriad of desires will be born, whose fulfillment will give birth to further ones.
Eventually, materialistic souls are worn out from running after sense-phenomena, and, finding themselves incapable of indulging in sense pleasures anymore because of dwindling strength, they live out their last years in bitterness and anger.
This is not the way to live. This is what’s called an ignorant life in spiritual texts. Not understanding the unchangeable spiritual laws sustaining the world of changing phenomena, but allowing this end product to dictate your life is a life lived in vain; because you are an immortal soul, yet you allow that which is mortal (the physical phenomena) to control you.
What’s the way out of this? It will be discussed in my next article.
Thank you Simona for your years of work for the spiritual life. This article is in line with the lineages of great masters of the past. Blessings!
Thank you, Pasi!
