Without our conscious awareness, we often interfere with a benign reality, making it problematic or even hellish. Without our interference, God would heal our split minds (which show us a false duality) and make us whole.
Recently, I watched a video on YouTube where a woman made a huge scene at the boarding gate because she was trying to bring extra carry-on luggage without paying. She even tried to force her way past the gate agents.
Her husband was already seated on the plane, but when he found out what was happening, he actually deplaned to defend his wife. He caused a major disruption by refusing to go back to the plane.
The police gave him a final ultimatum to return to his seat, warning him that if he refused, he, too, would be denied boarding. He refused anyway, but when he finally changed his mind and tried to get back on, his boarding privileges were revoked. The man considered this absolutely unfair, and both of them ended up arrested.
It looks like these two people unnecessarily created a massive problem for themselves. But the truth is, we all do this, usually just to a lesser degree!
This couple acted entitled, as though the world owed them something. They listened to the entitled thoughts of the ego and created a chaotic situation. We all listen to our own unique egos, making life difficult for ourselves.
In A Course in Miracles, we read that in order to return to our heavenly (whole) state, we simply must stop interfering with the healing process. God always tries to help us, but if we listen to ego thoughts - which show a lack of faith in God - the Creator Himself is powerless to help us.
So, how exactly do we interfere with our healing process? We do it by listening to ego thoughts whenever we face a challenging situation. Instead of having faith that everything will work out and actively looking for evidence of that faith, we listen to disempowering, fearful, and negative thoughts, and then act on them. According to the Course, this causes us to replace God’s reality with the ego's, which is why we suffer.
Let this be a beautiful reminder for you. When you are faced with an unexpected or difficult situation, here is what to do to ensure you are acting in alignment with the Divine plan to heal you:
1. Set the intention for the situation’s outcome.
The ego doesn’t set goals for a situation; it believes the situation should dictate the outcome. To act according to higher spiritual laws, we must decide what we want to come out of the experience. That goal should be in harmony with God (such as love, peace, harmony, truth, or a win-win outcome for everyone).
2. See the situation in its wholeness - do not focus on a specific aspect.
Because the ego is rooted in separation, it tends to hyper-focus on specific details. To avoid interfering, we should maintain a sense of unity and not isolate any single part from the whole situation.
3. Have faith in your chosen outcome.
We are conditioned to look for evidence that supports what our surface (ego) thoughts suggest to us. Now, we need to put all our trust in God, and know that everything is working out to our advantage.
4. Trust your brothers involved in the situation.
Whether you are dealing with call center staff, employees, co-workers, family members, or anyone else, trust in their inherent goodness. Address the Holy Spirit within them. You are a part of them, so if you lose faith in them, you devalue yourself. Have faith in them so you don't block God from helping you.
If you take these steps, situations will shift to your advantage - because this world is a projection of our minds, and projections can shift. So, shift them to your benefit.
