Watch this video to find out about the easiest way to eliminate stress. It’s about shavasana, the yogic relaxation method.
In the video I describe how to do this practice correctly.
A transcript of the video about the easiest way to eliminate stress
If you reached a stage where you can’t even sleep because of how stressed you are, there’s still a way to eliminate stress. And it’s an easy way because it doesn’t involve much effort on your part. However it involves letting go, which can be quite hard for some but still can be achieved.
This technique to eliminate stress is called shavasana. It’s a yogic term for complete relaxation. The actual translation of shavasana is “dead man’s pose”.
To try this technique you need to lie down on a solid surface which can be covered with a soft blanket. However you shouldn’t be lying down on a mattress or bed as that would be too soft and may cause you to fall asleep.
So once you’re lying down on the floor or another solid surface you need to place your hands a bit away from your waist with palms up and the legs should be away from each other but not too much apart, so that you would feel comfortable.
The major difference between a simple relaxation and shavasana is that when you lie down and get comfortable in shavasana you can’t move your body anymore. Only the chest and stomach can move when you’re breathing in and out, nothing more. This lack of movement is the reason why this relaxation method is called “dead man’s pose”.
When you feel comfortable lying down and don’t move anymore, start breathing deeply and focus on your breath. This will allow your mind to calm down a bit.
When you feel a bit relaxed you should start imagining how your toes are getting relaxed and once your toes get relaxed, shift your focus to your ankles, and then up towards the knees and then up towards the thighs. Keep relaxing all your body parts this way until you reach the top of your head. Only move to another body part when you feel your current body part relaxed.
When you achieve full relaxation of all the body parts you should still not move and stay this way without thinking about anything. You may start feeling energies moving through your body. That’s completely normal.
You shouldn’t fall asleep but if you do, that’s okay also – you’ll still get the benefits of shavasana. However if you retain your awareness throughout the entire time lying down, you’ll get more benefits and will feel more energized after this relaxation method.
You can do shavasana for 10 minutes or even and hour or two. As far as I know, there are no side effects of this practice, only the benefits. It will relax each cell of your body releasing all the stress, making you feel happier and more energetic.
